Where's Pink Moss?

Just to give you an idea of how busy we have been here at Pink Moss, we have...

visited Bridal Veil Falls
gone boating
enjoyed a Owlz baseball game
hiked Mount  Timpanogos
had a picnic at Sundance
saw Cars 2
had a family BBQ
and a family blessing

all in the past 8 or so days....

Today we will be having a free pony party
driving home and packing for the cabin to celebrate the 4th of July.

It's funny sometimes how hard I work to relax.

Timpanogos Cave

I will let these pictures speak for themselves.

Yesterday we hiked to Timpanogos Cave in the heat of the day.  My cousin Kim and her kids Lexi and Dillion joined us (actually we went because they are staying at our house and they planned to go).  It was only a mile and a half up the mountain, but it was STRAIGHT up the mountain and that is what made it challenging.  Between my breathing issue, Kinley's asthma, and the Tuckers used to sea level heights, we were all a bit challenged.  I was so proud of everyone for making it to the top without complaining.  Yes, we spoke of how hard it was but nobody whined.

And believe me, it is worth getting to the top!

This is the most amazing outhouse we have ever used!

and the caves were fascinating, dark and 45 degrees!

My blog takes second place to all the adventures we are busy having right now.  Stay tuned to see the story of Handsome's adoption finalization day, Sundance picnic, and much more!  I hope you are enjoying your summer as much as we are.

xoxo

Tick Tock

We were driving fast
along the freeway we flew, not a care in the world.
The day was long and my list of thoughts were too, reflecting on the recent events.

We woke up that morning ready for an adventure of family and fun.
We dressed, brushed, tucked, and tied our Sunday outfits into place,
and rushed out the door.

Abigail's baby blessing was beautiful, thanks to my brother Dave.
So beautiful in fact, I wish I could have written it down.
So eloquent and thoughtful, so full of love and peace.

I was surrounded by family,
babies all around, even my Carter that isn't able to make it very often.
A very rollie Jayne, a fidgety Halley, a snugly Bug, a snorting Jackson, and a hungry Handsome.

Afterward we were fed wonderfully
homemade desserts and dinner, by Emmy's darling family
and we chatted as people swirled all around feeding their children.

We left exhausted and complete....and we were driving home to relax.

It happened so fast
the freeway seemed to come to a stop before my eyes.
The cars swerved to the right, as another car rolled into the wall in front of us on the left.

We had some time to react, enough to slow down to hit the saddle bag
that they had tried to miss.
We couldn't jerk into the next lane, all I could do was stare as Jon maneuvered around the crash.

The little girl was sitting on the freeway crying, ejected from the car
Her mother was in the drivers seat screaming,
as her husband and other child were being pulled out of the car.

We started to pull over and Kinley rushed to undo her seat belt to help.
I yelled at her, "no" and Jon almost jumped out but realized they had help already.
We hit our brakes to slow the oncoming traffic, to protect the family.

And we passed.
Before I knew it, tears were rolling down my cheeks.
I felt so bad for the mother, and the family.

As I watched my kids play outside tonight in the warm summer breeze
I wanted time to move just a bit slower.
Even the laundry and dishes were enjoyable as I listened to their laughter.

Not one of us have any idea how many days we have left on this planet.
We never know if it's our last
Life is too short for hatred, jealousy, anger, and pride.

I for one, am recommitted to taking each day, one at a time.
I want to BE where I am, and not side tracked by thoughts of where I want to be.
I want to enjoy every day with my kids, that are growing up way too fast.

After all, my 15 year old daughter was just being blessed...seemingly yesterday.

Full of Grateful

I am full of grateful, indeed.

You see today is the day that Handsome, our Jordan is legally ours forever! We are wakin' up the kiddies in t minus 5 minutes and getting them ready to go visit the judge. We will promise to take care of our little man forever and ever

yes we will.

Another reason my lil' heart is busting at the seams today, is because my other man was nominated for Ernst and Young Entrepreneur of the year. He didn't win {this time} but he tried, and I believe will one day make it, and if not he is still a winner in my book and my book is all that matters.

We attended a celebration last night for all of the winners, people nominated, businesses involved, and guests.

https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&ik=559cd8c301&view=att&th=130c2071e3e4df37&attid=0.1&disp=inline&realattid=f_gpb8big30&zw

It's always fun to have an excuse to dress up, something I never thought I would do even a few years ago as I changed baby diapers, fed babies, and such. But now I'm smack dab in the middle of women in flowy gowns of all shapes, sizes, and colors. Hair that is twisted, straightened, and curled. Men in tuxes, and people calling me mam and offering me hordoeuvres This was all highly unlikely in my brain, but here I am just the same.

What an honor to be surrounded by like minded people. People that believe in free enterprise, hard work, and dreams that come true. People that have worked and sweat each day building block by block to create their masterpiece whatever it may be. Some were old and some were in their early adult life. Some had build businesses fast and furious and sold them for 1.3 billion as in the case of Josh James of Omniature, and others have waited until their very senior years to be recognized for a lifetime of work.

They selected somewhere around 3 finalists in each category *service, consumer, etc.* and picked a winner. But above and beyond the final winners, there were many deserving people in the audience and hundreds of supporters cheering for their team.

It was moving
It was happiness in a bottle
It was motivating

So motivating in fact that when we got home at 11:30, Jon was taking a shower as I took notes of our goals and dreams a.g.a.i.n. My eyelashes were fluttering and I was oh so tired, but I couldn't derail his passion and fire that had been rekindled yet again. Family goals, personal goals, and business goals were all written down in short and long term format. This page of mine is full of goals, but you know what?

There is power in writing it down.

I am not sure why, maybe it's true intent, maybe it gives the angels on the other side a chance to see what they can help us with, maybe it is a placebo effect, or just for fun but it works.

And just ask me how grateful I am for our surrounding team of people in business and personal? They are the best, and just ask me how grateful I am for the mentors we have been blessed with along the way?

Very blessed indeed.

And just ask me how grateful I am for a stretchy gown to wear at the forever long event? So dang thankful because my tummy was so full of gas and all Jon could say was,

"Just let out a little."
"NO"
"P.l.e.a.s.e...!!! It would be SO funny!"

"No."

"Should I squeeze you?"
"No, it would blow out my ears."

and we laughed in the front of a large room with cameras everywhere as we thought of our lives and future plans. A picture with Governor Herbert and a sweet visit from Chip that put together the Energy Solutions Arena deal * he has pledged to be a mentor to Jon because he loves his story*, and after a long day falling asleep like a rock.

Yes, I am full of grateful.

This Boy

This boy is hungry.

When you walk downstairs and this boy has climbed into the pantry, pulled out a thing of noodles and is eating it plain in a bowl, it means he is hungry.

When we drive in the car he says
"I wan lunch."

When he wakes up he says
"I wan breakfast"

When it's 10:00 am he says
"I wan two breakfasts"

At 3:00 he says
"I wan dinner"

When I tell him it isn't time, he says
"I wan a snack"

And when I ask what he wants, he says
"I wanna quesadillas."
"I wan toast"
"I wan peanut butter"
"I wan cereal"
"I wan ice cream"
"I wan spaghetti"

He is growing, growing, grown.

He can say whatever he wants, and says it well. Yesterday we went to the get ice cream. When we walked up to the building he said,

"There is 1,2,3,4, bikes!"
and there were.

This boy is hungry and smart!

Babies times Two

Last week I went up to see my family and take pictures of my two new baby nieces.
As you can see, they weren't altogether completely thrilled about it.

So we kept trying....

and trying.....

AND TRYING

to get those babies Abigail and Jayne happy with the idea of being twisted and turned in all sorts of weird positions.  The mommies took turns nursing their wee ones while the other was being photographed.  It was a zoo and oh so much fun!  The kiddos all ran around my parents yard and played on the blow up slide as we attempted this monumental task.

Ella and "Madzilla" loved it
{no I didn't make up her nick name, her loving father did}

and Handsome was a brave boy to jump right in the COLD ?refreshing? waters.  He smiled and I asked
"was it fun?"
"YES!"
"Do you want to do it again?"
"NO"

I think he had a blast shooting down the slide, but it was fa-reez-ing.  We had all gone swimming earlier that day at my neighbors house for Sprite's birthday and he plain out simply has no fear of water, which is a very good thing and a very bad thing.

Yes, Jordan was a very happy happy boy, with water to play in and a face full of Doritos!

and watching my nephew D.J. and my Bug was a little slice of heaven.  I don't know what they were talking about, but it sure looked interesting.

This is my mom's dog Glacia.  She is a fiercely loyal partner and is treated as well or better than my father.  *I am kidding of course* but I think she believes she is a third member of the marriage.   My father doesn't object, he loves her just the same.

My most favorite welcome by far was from my nephew Jackson.  He thrust out his finger, pointed at me and said, "HI NAE NAE" in a sort of growl voice.   (luckily I had my camera already aimed at him)  I couldn't have been happier and I wanted to eat him up.  What a cute second generation of family we are being blessed with!

Yes indeed, it was a crazy perfect day, and I had to snap a pic as Madzilla and Abigail were both crying.  I am so proud of my sister in law Emmy for learning to laugh in the face of danger!  In my opinion you  an either laugh or cry, and I'd rather laugh.

and after all was said and done, we got some pretty cute shots of these kiddos.

We tried the first position but it looked pretty funny...maybe that's why it looks like
Abigail is laughing at us...but after a bit we started getting lucky.  You see, I am no pro.  I just keep taking pictures until something works.

{I loved Abigail's darling sneeze face!}

{and I loved how Jackson was trying to make Jayne laugh when she just wasn't feelin' it AND their adorable mommy I call sis}

Yes, overall I would say we pulled off a miracle between juggling eleven kids on the water slide and having two photo shoots.

but of course we had some helping hands

Like my dad chasing Handsome around and around and up and down

and Whitney snuggling them when they were cold

daddy playing the pen game

and Na Na getting dinner ready

Oh yes, we had a grand ol' time

and this would be the reason they call her Madzilla.  She is everywhere all the time and boy, if this chick doesn't get what she wants she will let you know.  She is laughing one minute and mad the next.  I think she has a great future in show business and she reminds me a bit of myself when I look into her face.  I have pictures of me looking a lot like her.  Also she loves to be tickled, and is always up for adventure like her auntie!

I love how Bug found a way to control D.J.
The ear works every time!

Not sure what Dave is doing here other than he is graduating with his Masters in Business degree TODAY!! Maybe he is practicing on soaring through the clouds because he feels like he is on cloud nine. (I would too!!) Congrats Dave!  I am so proud of all your hard work!

When I was going through school, all the teachers would say to him on the first day of class,
"Gourley...? Oh no, you are Janae's brother?!"

He had an immediate mark on his forehead that said
{trouble maker}

To overcome that, and do it so well is an admirable accomplishment!

Yes, Bug has a feather in her hair, all of my girls do.  It is the latest and greatest around these parts!  My dad let me know the other day that all of the fashion divas or majorly ticking off all of the fly fisherman because the feather comes off of a special bird that is bred for fly fisherman's bait.

Fly fishing vs. fashion, this could get scary.

and there is no way in this world I feel bad for posting this picture.  I sent him a picture of me making this face and he put it on his facebook profile *six months ago and it's still there*!!  That is SO typical of my dad.  He never yelled, never grounded, just found ways to get us back and humiliate us as kids.

even better?

In short
My Hero.

Some of you may remember that picture of Bug at the soccer field where she is standing on her neck?! Ya, this picture reminded me of that one and I had to laugh....again.

and we all had a good laugh when one of my kids found this Pound Puppy in the forest somewhere.  It was no doubt Camille's, and it was also no doubt that the brothers took it to sail down the creek.

After our BBQ dinner, Handsome came up to me and said, "Look mama, there is tractor and I can not touch it."  I was so proud of him for knowing my dad's tractor could be dangerous.  My dad looked at him with a grin and said, "Sure you can!"

So he gave all the kids rides in the bucket of the tractor for the rest of the night as the sun set in the sky.

Yes, you might be a red neck if you give tractor rides for entertainment.

My dad didn't drive anywhere for safety reasons, but going up and down in the bucket was large amounts of fun for all.  The adults sat and laughed at their face expressions the whole time.

Even my crazy mother joined in the fun!  You see the stock I come from..?
It's no wonder I am crazy!

What do you love to spend time doing in the summer with your family?  Do you live close to them or are you too far away and have to fly to see them on occasion?
