Rantings of a HORRID Chef

I don't like to cook.
I don't pretend to like to cook.
I have never liked to cook and never will.

O.K.
Maybe never,
Maybe someday,
Maybe even this year!
That is my GOAL anyway.

I can make basic stuff
like sandwiches and spaghetti.
I don't mind Tacos
As long as it's ready

Cooking takes time
to prepare, eat, and clean up
And ya gotta know stuff
like a measuring cup

Just pass me a sandwich
with tomatoes, meat, and cheese
I'll show you a big smile
Better yet, lets go to Wendy's

Alright, now that I got that 2 minute planned poem, lets get to business. I love to sit around and eat as a family. I enjoy the stories about the day, and sharing successes and let downs. I love the smell of good food and how it brings people together.
I don't like the actual planning of the meals. I don't know ahead of time what I will feel like eating and if I make what I want to eat, the kids complain the whole time and question what every ingredient they see is. After I have spent an hour making it, I am slim on patience to explain
what is in the food and why they should eat it.

o.k., enough complaining.

I want to learn to be a better cook and so I am reporting to my blog friends. Maybe it will motivate me the way it motivates others to exercise. Today I made our green smoothy for breakfast with eggs and toast. The green smoothie is great because the kids get in their veggies and fruit before the day even starts, and they like it!

For dinner I made Potato corn chowder. It actually turned out pretty good. I always try to stick to the recipe but feel confined so I change it all the time. Maybe I got this from my mom. She has made her "healthy cookies" a million times and I swear they have never been the same twice. Sometimes I can stomach them and sometimes I can't. She thinks as long as there are chocolate chips in them it should override the fact that there are things like flax seed oil, and many other things I have never heard of. Maybe that's why she looks so great though, so I shouldn't complain!

If any of my blogger friends out there have any great, easy, and healthy recipes you want to share just let me know and I will give it a shot. I am actually proud of myself today for not cutting or burning myself which is regular occurrence in these parts!

I found myself grinning as I chopped the celery because I liked the sound and noticed I was planning outfits in my mind from the color combinations of the corn, celery, and broth.
Maybe, just maybe I can learn to like this.

You know that gum in Willey Wonka and the Chocolate Factory? I would be all FOR it (if it didn't turn me into a blueberry, of course.) I hate cooking, and I hate the cleanup after. People always talk about how LAUNDRY is a never ending job? Well, in my opinion, the kitchen is the never ending job. LOL

Cute blog. I'm now following. I found you on blog frog.

Way to go! Two bits of advice...1.You never please everyone all the time...they'll just learn to deal with it! 2. Always have something they can fill up on if they don't like the meal...like rolls, rice, noodles etc. They can have a bite to at least taste it, but then they don't go hungry! I'll email you some of our faves!
PS. Can't wait to see the celery corn outfit!

It took me a while, but I finally found joy in cooking. Now, do my picky kids find joy in eating my crazy concoctions? Not always!

Rachel Ray has some really yummy recipes. I have her 365: No Repeats cookbook and have found many awesome finds that even my kiddos love to eat too (that's always a score! : ). One of our favs is her Honey Glazed Salmon and Black Bean Corn Salad.

Here is the recipe:

You can search and find the recipe anywhere, but I wanted to show you one that had a picture. : )

Thanks for the advice! I seriously need it. I am pretty pathetic. I can cook very basic things but have never tried to get too interesting :)
I need Rachael Ray's book. I sat and stared at my 20 books today that looked either like it would take to long or not something my kids would eat.
Thanks!
